Top flight Highboard diver and Eze Group sponsee Jenny Cowen, unfortunately didn’t make these Olympics. But did that deter Jenny or stop her training? This article shows that top sports people posses mental as well as physical attributes missing in the rest of us.
Missing the Cut
After the Olympic trials I was given a week off training. This was an unexpected but welcome short break and I had time to relax and reflect on the Olympic Trials. It gave me time to overcome my disappointment in not being selected for the Olympics and start preparing myself for the next four years training cycle and hopefully selection to the Commonwealth Games and the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
During this week off I was asked to go down to London to do some filming for an advert. This was a fantastic experience as not only was I filmed diving off the boards but under water and in a studio too. It was so interesting to see what goes into producing an advert. I was one of four athletes from different sports in the advert and a lot of the moves were filmed in slow motion. I am really looking forwards too seeing the end product.
There was a strong Olympic buzz when I returned to training as my coaches and five of my Team mates had been to get their Olympic kit and where still training hard for their competitions. Although I was still disappointed that I had not been selected as part of Team GB I was enjoying the build up to the Olympics with my team mates.
As Team GB set off to their pre Olympic training camp in Southend, I set off for a holiday in Tenerife to visit my brother who is working out there and the Eze Group Team. I was pleased to be able to visit Eze Groups Head Office and personally meet the Team out there. It was a good opportunity for me to thank them for their sponsorship and support. After enjoying my holiday it was back home and back to training.
My training schedule is very light at this stage, only doing lead ups towards new dives for next season. Whilst my coach is away at the Olympics I am going to be on a 6 weeks fitness boot camp. This is where the majority of my training will be on dry land with my strength and conditioning coach with only a few pool sessions a week. This will help increase my strength ready for the beginning of next seasons training schedule on my coaches’ return from the Olympics.
Although I am not competing in the Olympics I am going to support and watch my Team mates compete. GOOD LUCK TEAM GB!
