The EZE Group are proud of you Jenny
Another excerpt from the training diary of Olympic 10m board diver Jenny Cowen. We at the Eze Group are proud to be able to sponsor this wonderful young women and to help her attain her goals.
The last weekend in January I was competing in the British National Cup Competition in Southend. It was good to be training and competing at such a good venue. The pool has only been open for just over a year and both the dryland and pool facilities are excellent. It was also nice to catch up with all the other divers from around the country.
We arrived in Southend on the Wednesday prior to the competitions beginning on the Friday to train. My training sessions went well and I felt ready for my competition which was on the Saturday. My event, the women’s 10m platform, was the second one of the day and the prelim had fifteen competitors. We were all feeling the pressure as only the top eight would qualify for the finals.
Throughout the prelim competition all fifteen competitors battled for the top eight places. I was very pleased with my third position especially as my back 2 ½ somersaults with 1 ½ twists had a low score. The final was very exciting and nerve racking as all of the top six prelim qualifiers changed place in the final. I maintained my third position right until my last dive, back 2 ½ somersaults piked, which went slightly over on the entry resulting in a lower score than I normally achieve on this dive. This was disappointing as my finals score was 30 points higher than my prelim score, but the few points I lost from that dive put me in fifth place in the final. All I have to do now is wait to find out which international competitions I will be selected for and continue training hard for them.
The Eze Group logo on my costumes, tracksuit and t-shirts generated a lot of interest between divers, coaches and some parents. I was proud to say that I am an Eze Group Ambassador and sponsored by them. The logo was even recognised by one diver.
Since returning from Southend training has been going well. Along with training all my dives I have started to learn a new dive, back armstand double somersault. At the moment I am practising the back armstand on the 7.5m board. Training will be Chinese style for the next few weeks as Leeds Diving Club has a Chinese coach visiting and coaching us.
The prelim competition saw all of the competitors underperform at least one of their dives.
